Great burgers. Caramelized onions. Crispy bacon. Great fresh buns. I'll be a regularly from now on.

Good food if they ever are open. Went there 2 days in a row, Thursday and Friday, to find them closed for a "rest day.". Lol. Um. Ok.

Went there as a kid and a teenager and just revisited Georges Food Bar again on Tuesday July 10. The burgers are still the best I've ever had.
Just a little take out place, run by George's family. -

The guy I am dating and I came here after we got off the ferry to have something to eat. This is a total hole in the wall, however, this is a historical hole in the wall with history in the city and to many individual hearts (embedded). This is the kind of stand that you see in the 50's movies sans the nostalgia and just the dive part. They have 4 basic things on the menu with slight variations. They keep it simple. Prices are extremely cheap, therefore, this is a cash only place. Service is a bit slow. Everything is made to order. It's somewhat healthy in comparison to other burger joints but not by much. The burgers aren't out of the world, however, you come here for the history and the fun of it. Coming from the city I am a little spoiled by burgers, therefore, my evaluation is understandably unfair. There are no seats inside, therefore, you just take and go.

I too was suckered into stopping for a burger by the locals. It's your standard crappy 1950's style greasy spoon burger. Not sure why some people rave about it. I definitely as the song says " Won't get fooled again."
If you want a truly awesome burger "The Mad Chef" is orders of magnitude better... more $$ but well worth it.
And to the chap who didn't like my review and hoped I choked on my next burger....I'm not in any danger...because I'm not eating at George's. I couldn't "choke down" another one of those.
